Develop a Zero Carbon Roadmap for Your Facility

According to the United Nations, global warming (also called climate change) has become a leading crisis for civilization and most of this warming can be attributed to the carbon dioxide generated from our burning of fossil fuels. Global warming leads to more powerful hurricanes, wildfires, floods, droughts, crop failures, species extinctions, and to the spread of disease. Many governments and private agencies seek to become carbon neutral in the next decade to help mitigate the effects of global warming. We can evaluate your facility’s use of fossil fuels and develop a roadmap for reducing your carbon footprint including a thorough analysis of the costs involved at each step on your journey to carbon neutrality.

Green Globes® Certification

Green Globes is a green building certification system owned by the Green Building Initiative (GBI) and has been active in the United States since 2004. Buildings certified under this system can achieve lower operating costs, reduced interest rates, and (in some locations) expedited permitting. Our staff have worked on over 200 Green Globes certified buildings and can show you how to get certified if you are constructing a new building or own an existing building.

Engineering Analyses

Our staff can evaluate your facility to identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, reduce complaints and downtime, and improve indoor air quality. We will complete site visits, evaluate your energy and water bills, interview your staff, and prepare recommendations for equipment upgrades and maintenance schedules. This service includes the development of pre-functional and functional checklists and maintenance logs.

Energy Star® Analyses

We will compare the energy use of your facility to similar facilities in your area by completing an Energy Star analysis and entering your facility into the Energy Star Portfolio Manager. Our analysis includes an evaluation of your energy bills, operating hours, and occupancy profile.

Mechanical Design

Our staff includes a Professional Engineer registered in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and Arizona. We can provide complete construction documents, drawings, and specifications, for Mechanical design projects in any of these States. We have provided Mechanical designs for several LEED-certified buildings that have consistently scored in the upper 88th percentile of Energy Star®, using less energy than 88% of similar buildings in their region. Our portfolio includes the design of ground loop heat pump systems, dedicated outdoor air systems, chilled and hot water systems, and variable air volume systems.

Building Commissioning

According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Guideline 0: “The Commissioning Process is a quality-oriented process for achieving, verifying, and documenting that the performance of facilities, systems, and assemblies meets defined objectives and criteria.” Our staff has been commissioning commercial facilities since 1992. We have commissioned projects across the country from 5,000 square foot bank branch offices to a LEED-certified 500,000 square foot hospital.

Energy Modeling

We have Trane Trace 700 energy modeling software in-house and can provide energy modeling for Green Globes certification, to achieve reduced interest rates from Fannie Mae, secure 179D tax deductions, secure financing from PACE, or secure grants from local agencies. One of our recent energy models was completed for a 1.1-Million square foot pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

Energy Audits

Our staff will tour your facility, document nameplate data for all energy-using equipment, count and document light fixtures, interview your staff, and review your utility bills. The objective of an audit is to identify where energy is being used and how that energy use can be reduced without having a negative effect on your operations.

Cost Analyses

We can evaluate mechanical and facility costs using R.S. Means data along with our own extensive experience with commercial and industrial buildings. Our staff can review contractor bids and make recommendations on what costs can be reduced or eliminated completely. We can show you how simple payback is NOT the tool for a good economic comparison.

Green Upgrades that are easy, effective, and economical

We dedicated an entire section of our site to these upgrades. Please see the tab “What Is Green?” to get started and call us if you want more information. Good green upgrades only add 1 to 2% to the total construction cost and pay for themselves immediately. Ask us how.
